In this course you will go from wondering if natural dyes could work for you to feeling confident and excited about using plants you've grown and/or foraged to create beautiful and sustainable wools!

This workshop is specifically designed for rug hookers and other wool crafters who use primarily wool. Though we will dye some wool yarn and perhaps some silk yarn, we will focus on wool.

This 6-week online natural dye workshop includes instruction on:

  • Preparing fibers to dye
  • Extracting dyes from natural sources (plants and insects!)
  • Using natural dye extracts
  • Over-dyeing and shifting color
  • Building color to give your wool depth and interest
  • Creating and caring for an indigo vat
  • Growing and foraging local color

Class start date TBD. Six weekly live sessions.

  • All live sessions are recorded and posted so you can catch the replay if you can't attend the live session
  • Lifetime access to recorded instruction so you can go at your own pace
  • Regular live sessions to get all your questions answered
  • Online community to get to know your classmates, share results, celebrate each other's successes, and post questions

An optional kit is available to purchase. The kit includes all dyes, additives, and fibers needed for the course. Shipping is free in the US and 1/2 price international shipping.

For international students, and students who may only need to supplement their own supplies, download a complete list of necessary items and recommendations for where to purchase them from inside the course hub.

Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions! I look forward to helping you get started on your natural dye journey!
